UPS
Founded in 1907 by James Casey and Claude Ryan as the American Messenger Company in Seattle, Washington.
Initially only serving the city, the company made deliveries on foot, bicycle and, later, via a Model T Ford.
Merging with a comptetior in 1913 the company became Merchants Parcel Delivery. It wasn’t until expansion to Oakland, California in 1919 that the company changed its name to United Parcel Service.
The company is commonly referred to by its initialism, UPS.
