UBS
The bank we know as UBS was formed in 1998 when the Union Bank of Switzerland merged with the Swiss Bank Corporation. While the combined bank took the initialism used by the Union Bank for its new name, it also took the Swiss Bank Corporation’s three interlocking keys for its new logo.
Although the Union Bank came into being in 1912, and the Swiss Bank Corporation was born in 1897, UBS traces its history back to 1862 when the Bank in Winterthur and the Basler Handelsbank were created. These two banks were later absorbed into either the Union Bank or the Swiss Bank Corporation.
